At Boden, our mission is deeply rooted in the belief that healthy soil is the cornerstone of successful agriculture. We're dedicated to providing innovative solutions like the Bolt, designed to enhance soil quality, ensuring that farmers can maximize their yield and efficiency.

Our Story

The journey of Boden began in a homemade soil pit in Southern Illinois. Brian Tomm, a farmer and electrical engineer, envisioned a novel method to control soil bacteria using electricity. This vision led to the creation of the first prototypes of the Bolt, tested in his own garage. These initial experiments quickly garnered interest in the local farming community, leading to wider adoption across neighboring farms. Tim Smith, PhD, recognizing the potential of this technology, introduced Brian to Daryl Starr, an agtech entrepreneur and investor. This partnership marked a pivotal moment for Boden.

Focused on safety and functionality, our team enhanced the Bolt through rigorous field trials and demonstrations. The effectiveness of our solution attracted attention from the agricultural sector, with farmers expressing a strong desire for this technology.

To bridge the gap between innovative technology and practical agricultural needs, Johnny Park introduced Daryl Starr to Max Mathison. In January 2023, Max joined Boden as the General Manager. His role has been crucial in connecting ag service providers with farmers, especially those near high-value crops, to deliver the benefits of the Bolt.
